Each year, by the end, IRS typically shuts down the MEF (Modernized E-file system) for maintenance. MEF is the online system through, which Tax2290.com submits our IRS tax form return.
We just got the information that, today, Friday, 26th December 2014 at 1:30 pm the IRS MEF will be blacked out for maintenance and is scheduled to reopen anytime in January 2015.
If you are wondering, how does this affect you and us? We will tell you.
This shutdown is a routine, and each year, IRS closes down for the maintenance. However, that doesn’t mean, you cannot file your return with us.
- · If you are using Tax2290.com, you will be able to efile and submit your tax return. Your return would not be transmitted to IRS at the time of filing, (during the shutdown) and would be release the same once IRS reopens.
- · During the maintenance, you will not receive your acknowledgement receipt from IRS until the system reopens.
- · If you need to file your first-used vehicle, you need to submit form 2290 by 1.30 today, (Friday)
Although the due date is technically December 31st 2014 to file your newly used vehicles in the month of November, IRS will not be able to process the schedule 1 copy during the blackout and that is why, it is advisable to file and pay your HVUT by today (26th January) for betterment.
