With the season for the year 2014-15 ending successfully, we take the pleasure to thank our taxpayers for investing the trust and the belief in Tax2290.com, a prime product of ThinkTrade Inc. We had received an overwhelmed response from new and existing customers and we wish to maintain the same association each tax season.

Before we move with the topic of the blog, lets brush our knowledge about form 2290 aka HVUT:

Form 2290 is the application through which you can file Heavy Vehicle Used Tax and this tax is calculated based on the weight of the truck. The standardized weight of the truck to file form 2290 should be more than 55,000 pounds. However, if you own more than 25 vehicles, you are mandated to e-file form 2290 online.

If you are new to efiling, this method serves you with feasibility and easiness on your fingertips. You can file, pay and receive your schedule 1 copy in minutes. Online filing is safe, secure and at the same time reliable. Today we are going to discuss the payment methods used in filing form 2290.

Direct Debit/ Electronic Funds Withdrawal:

This is one of the payment method used to file form 2290. IRS initiates the payment through the bank details you provide while filing form 2290. It is mandatory to maintain sufficient balance in your bank account before you pay your dues to IRS. To revoke payment by getting in touch with the U.S. Treasury Financial Agent at 1-888-353-4537 no later than 2 business days before the settlement date.

Electronic Federal Tax Payment System: (EFTPS)

Another payment method applicable while efiling form 2290 is EFTPS. This method is an IRS initiative and the security levels are maintained high in order to keep your credentials in a safe server. However, you need to put in some effort for making use of this method. You need to schedule a payment on your own for a timely payment. To create or manage, you can visit eftps.gov or call 1-800-555-4477. To initiate a payment through this account, the transaction should be initiated at least one business day before the due date.

Check Or Money Order:

This method is for taxpayers who are not comfortable paying taxes online. You need to pay your dues through payment voucher 2290-V and mail it to IRS. However, form 2290 would be transmitted to IRS through the servers.

Note:

Taxpayers are not allowed to pay their taxes through cash.  The check or money order should be payable to United States Treasury. Add details like name, address, EIN, “Form 2290,” and the date (as entered in Box 3) on your payment. Detach the payment voucher 2290-V and send across the payment. If you choose to file it electronically (e filing), form 2290 and schedule-1 copy with the payment voucher is not required. Stapling the payment to the voucher or form 2290 should be avoided.

Send the payment and voucher 2290-V to:

Internal Revenue Service

P.O. Box 804525

Cincinnati, OH 45280-4525
